Indoor wayfinding signange by Atelier Pacific for HSBC Plaza refurbishment

HSBC Plaza Refurbishment Work

ATELIER PACIFIC

Project Name: HSBC 1 Queens Road Central – Plaza Refurbishment Work, Hong Kong

Client: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation

Sector: Visitor attraction

Location: Central, Hong Kong

The role: Provision of information graphic design consultancy services as part of the refurbishment of the iconic street-level plaza of the HSBC Headquarters Main Building in Central, Hong Kong, designed by Norman Foster

The brief: HSBC required various aesthetic and operational improvement works to the public and private entries to their Hong Kong headquarters so as to better identify ownership of the spaces under their management. Atelier Pacific were invited to contribute information graphic design expertise to the project, working alongside architects One Space and Urbis.

Outcome: Working closely with the HSBC archival team, Atelier Pacific created the visual content for freestanding semi-transparent graphic panels for the plaza space that seek to inform on multiple levels – both for the passing pedestrian, as well as for the more interested reader. The content reflects the historical story of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, with over-sized details taking reference from the vignettes and guilloche lines that appear on printed money. The panel styling is sensitive to the plaza environment, coordinating with floor details and providing eye-catching lighting for the dimmed surroundings.
