On 14th November, British sign industry colleagues including many SDS members gathered at the Athena Centre in Leicester to celebrate the best UK-based sign makers of 2019. Now in their seventh year, the British Sign Awards have become a beacon for the best in British Signmaking, providing a unique showcase for the creative talent, technological skills, engineering abilities and craftsmanship that continue to make sign making in the UK the envy of the world.
Congratulations to all 15 category winners at the BSA 2019 gala ceremony, four of whom are Sign Design Society members: Butterfield Signs (Retail), f.r.a. (Wayfinding), Lavastar (Wide Format) and Signbox (Illuminated). Find out more about all the shortlisted and winning projects.
In the Wayfinding category, judged by a specially convened SDS panel, f.r.a., Impact Signs and Populous were shortlisted. The award went to Shrewsbury-based f.r.a. for their elegant scheme for the major refurbishment of Metquarter in Liverpool. This included external, illuminated signs to the dual entrances, one within a conservation area requiring sensitive planning consideration for a listed Victorian frontage, and a full signage family.
Like to find out more about the projects shortlisted in the Wayfinding category? Then join us at our 16 December seasonal soiree, kindly sponsored by Wood and Wood. Hear designers Simon Borg (Populous Activate) and Wesley Meyer (f.r.a.) talk us through the challenges of successfully completing their commissions. Tickets are free to SDS members and £25.00 to non-members. More information about the event will be available shortly via our website and social media channels.
