In 1964, Raleigh D’Adamo’s winning entry in a Transit Authority design competition redefined the color-coding scheme of the New York City subway map and inspired his professional shift from law to transportation. This led to a long career of notable achievements including his involvement in the creation of 1972’s iconic Unimark map. D’Adamo also developed safer subway operating procedures and devised new routing systems and passenger service proposals that are still influential today.

Joined by historian and map scholar, Peter B. Lloyd, Raleigh D’Adamo will present his many contributions to the city’s subway system and share a selection of map artifacts from his personal collection.
