Featuring global scholars and practitioners in art and architecture sharing insights on how creative inquiry shapes our built environment.
A virtual panel and exhibition that explores how art, architecture, and the built environment shape identity, belonging, and the human experience. Conceived in response to students and emerging architects seeking new ways to express their artistic voice, this event invites participants to rediscover design as both a creative practice and a tool for reclaiming culture and community.
Presented as part of Open House Chicago, Purpose = Place convenes leading thinkers across art, policy, and design to explore how deeply art inspires architecture and how that relationship continues to shape our sense of purpose and place.
The conversation will be moderated by Cecilia Cuff (Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and founder of The Nascent Group), and will feature Adam Rubin (Chicago Architecture Center), Ann Lui (Future Firm), Jennifer Hughes (Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and previous policy maker of the National Endowment for the Arts), Makafui Searcy (Fortunehouse Arts Center), and Ning Zhu (School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, China). Together, they will offer dynamic perspectives on the intersections of creativity, culture, and the built environment.
Viewers will leave with a renewed appreciation for the influence of art on architecture and a deeper understanding of how creative practice can shape more expressive, equitable, and human-centered spaces.
