Wayfinding is often equated with signs. But as any experienced consultant will soon tell you, signs are one among several options in the wayfinder’s toolbox. The architectural features, landscape design, lighting, public art, digital solutions and people all have a role in helping people to navigate and understand places. For the SDS 2019 summer party we celebrated the role that art and light play with two speakers at the forefront of their fields: Paul Arad (Acrylicize) and Jason Bruges (Jason Bruges Studio).
About our speakers
Paul Arad graduated with a degree in History from Manchester University. In 2003 Paul partnered with Acrylicize founder James Burke to set up and run the commercial and operational side of the studio. In 2016 the Shoreditch based company established a sister studio in Seattle to support their mission to bring art into the everyday lives of a larger demographic of people.
Jason Bruges is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer based in London. After training as an architect at Oxford Brookes University and the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), Jason worked at Foster + Partners for three years. He then became a senior interaction designer at Imagination, before founding his own practice in 2002. Jason’s work blends architecture with interaction design and uses a high-tech, mixed media palette to explore spectacle, time-based interventions and dynamic spatial experiences. He is passionate about creating site-specific pieces that engage people with their environments.
