SIGNES
Project Name: Touristic Signage and Wayfinding System in Azerbaijan
Client: Azerbaijan Ministry of Tourism
Sector: Tourism & cultural heritage
Location: : Various locations across Azerbaijan
The role: Sign design, wayfinding, typography, map design, graphic design
The brief: The Ministry of Tourism in Azerbaijan commissioned a comprehensive signage system to enhance the experience for tourists visiting key cultural and historical sites. With the collaboration of Mayúscula Design Team, Signes developed a cohesive wayfinding system that merges traditional Azerbaijani design motifs with a contemporary aesthetic. The goal was to create a clear, accessible, and visually appealing system that respected Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage while providing easy navigation. The signage needed to be multilingual and adaptable to various environments, from urban areas to more remote historical landmarks.
Outcome: Signes delivered a wayfinding system that blends Azerbaijani design with contemporary aesthetics. Multilingual signs (in Azerbaijani and English) enhance accessibility, and the materials were selected to endure diverse weather conditions. One of the innovations included QR codes, giving tourists access to interactive maps and further information through their mobile devices. The successful integration of modern design elements and durable manufacturing addressed the challenges, delivering a seamless tourist experience across the country.
