Back in July, Festival of Place gifted the Society two tickets to their inaugural conference. The aim was to bring people that work in the built environment together to explore how to create places that thrive. The tickets were offered to two lucky members, on a first-come-first-served basis.
First out of the blocks was Sapna Nundloll, space & movement consultant. For those that weren’t so lucky, Sapna has summarised her key highlights and takeaways :
- Tim Gill‘s discussion of how over the course of four generations, eight-year-olds have seen their ‘license to roam’ and their space to play progressively reduced. The challenge to wayfinders to think about how signs can be designed to be playful and engaging for children;
- Allied to the above, a VR workshop run by Hannah Wright from Urban95, gave delegates the opportunity to experience the urban environment from a three-year-old’s perspective. Most noticeable was the impact of car fumes and noise and how traditional wayfinding cues are outside their sightlines.
