Existential threats including the climate crisis, conflict and AI are affecting all parts of the world, transforming the way and where we live, and how our societies function. What can we be doing to save the Earth, its people and environment? LSE Festival 2026: How to save the planet explores the impact of these global challenges, and how individuals, communities, organisations, corporations, and those with political power should be tackling them.
A biennial academic conference that convenes scholars from disciplines engaged with grapholinguistics and, more broadly, the systematic study of writing systems and their manifestation in written communication. The conference seeks to examine the current state of scholarship in this domain and to assess the significance of writing and writing systems within adjacent disciplines, including computer science, communication studies, linguistics, typography, psychology, and pedagogy. Of particular concern is the investigation of the expanding influence of Unicode and its implications for the future of literacy and textual practices in human societies.
A design festival for people who use type. This two-day series of talks is the central event of the Typographics Festival, focused on the use of type across all design disciplines. Now in its eleventh year, this will be a hybrid conference.
This exhibition will chart Walker’s importance in the world of typography and printing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, from his first private press involvement with the founding and operation of William Morris’s Kelmscott Press (1891–1898), his partnership with Thomas James Cobden-Sanderson at the Doves Press (1900–1917), through to his final printing collaboration with Wilfred Merton and Bruce Rogers.
