Project name: The Wings
Client: Ghelamco
Sector: Corporate
Location: Diegem, Belgium
The role: Wayfinding and sign design
The brief: The Wings in Diegem is a landmark mixed-use development located near Brussels Airport. It contains premium office spaces, a 250-room hotel, co-working areas, restaurants, fitness facilities, terraces and a huge underground parking. The architecture by Assar features fluid,
rounded volumes organized around a spacious. Sustainability is central: the complex is the first Belgian project with a triple certification: BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold, and DGNB Gold. The client, Ghelamco, wanted the signage to reflect its advanced environmental and wellbeing standards.
Outcome: Signburo carried out the wayfinding study which resulted in a concept based upon the four wings of the project. Environmentally friendly materials such as aluminium and etronite were chosen for the realisation of the static signage. The entire concept is based on the organic shapes of the four quadrants of the building. Almost all signs were designed in this very
particular shape, from safety pictograms to glass illuminated information monoliths. This ensures that the look & feel of the signage fits perfectly into its surroundings.
